There are many reasons why people need tooth replacement. Injury, illness, lack of access to dental care and even genetics can contribute to extensive tooth loss.
Unfortunately, losing teeth can impact almost every part of your life, from your ability to speak and eat to your self confidence. Lost teeth can also change the shape of your jaw and face, which further impacts self-esteem.
Tooth loss isn’t a lifelong sentence, however. There are more options for tooth replacement than ever before.
The dental team at Patriot Family Dental in Clarksville can help restore your smile by creating a partial or full denture treatment plan. We will work to make sure that your dentures fit your budget and your needs.
Partial and Full Dentures
Full and partial dentures both offer improved eating and chewing ability, improved speech, improved aesthetic appearance and better oral health.
The tooth portion of a denture consists of ceramic or ceramic-like material. This makes the denture strong and durable so it can withstand the forces of biting and chewing.
The base of the denture is made of an acrylic which fits comfortably over the gums.
Full and Partial Denture Treatment Process
When it’s time to begin your denture treatment plan, Patriot Family Dental takes every measure to ensure that your dentures closely resemble your natural teeth.
Dr. Harris pays close attention to the shape and alignment of each patient’s natural teeth and jaw. This helps him create a denture shape and appearance that fits seamlessly with your face. Temporary dentures may be utilized for patients transitioning from failing teeth to dentures.
For patients transitioning to a full denture, the denture is created after all remaining teeth have been removed and the gums have healed. This process often takes around 3 months.
For patients receiving partial dentures, replacement teeth are bonded to a gum-colored base which is attached to a metal framework – this framework is held in place by attaching to the natural teeth on either side of the empty space.
Flexible partial dentures are an alternative to the traditional rigid metal-based dentures. They don’t require rigid attachment to the remaining natural teeth. They also provide a better fit and look more natural.
The appeal of flexible partials lies in their superior design, fit and materials. They are also made more quickly than traditional dentures, and the nylon resin does not break.
